Some firsts and some third for Wells in Yankees’ win

New York Yankees, Vernon Wells

From start to finish, it was a day of firsts — and some third — for the Yankees’ Vernon Wells.

In the first inning of New York’s 3-2 victory over Colorado, Wells hit his first career home run at Coors Field, and in the ninth inning he played his first career inning at third base. Heck, it was his first career inning in the infield — in the major or minor leagues.

Even more improbable were the circumstances that led to Wells’ last infield appearance back in high school:

The stakes were higher Wednesday night, when Wells handled his one chance cleanly to help Mariano Rivera secure his 12th save of the season and 620th of his career.

Most disgraceful game calling in the 9th I've seen in a long time.  Betancourt was shafted and Rivera was given a mile wide strike zone on both sides of the plate in an obviously disgraceful expansion of the zone by Chris Guccione.  Guccione was a disgrace to the game of baseball.

Who is the ONLY player to hit a walk off homer vs. Mariano Rivera and play 3rd base behind him?
