Watch: San Diego’s Will Venable makes incredible game-saving catch in 12th

San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Will Venable

Catch of the year? Definitely catch of the night.

In the bottom of the 12th inning of the Padres’ 5-3 victory over the Giants on Monday, Padres outfielder Will Venable made an incredible diving catch deep in centerfield to prevent the winning run from scoring:

Venable’s amazing catch ended the 12th and robbed Juan Perez of driving in the winning run for San Francisco.

The Padres went on to beat the Giants in the 13th inning when pinch-hitter Andrew Casher successfully executed a safety squeeze, marking San Diego’s season-best seventh straight win.

Good catch, but not the best play of the year. In fact, not even the best play made against the Giants in the last 36 hours - that honor would go to Justin Upton's 2-out diving catch with the bases loaded on Sunday evening.

@SeeMore You're joking right? Going forward and making a diving catch is far easier than running back and making a diving catch. Seriously, go in your back yard and try it out. Also, consider where each game was when both catches were made. Justin Upton made his catch (which was really awesome) during the early part of the game. If he misses it, the Giants score two and the Braves still have many opportunities to come back. Will Venable made his catch in extra innings. If he misses that ball, the game is over and so is the Padres' winning streak, and also the Padres don't move up in the standings. So, SeeMore, I'm sorry, but you're wrong. Venable's catch stands as the best catch of the season so far.
