Watch: Ortiz takes Wacha over the Green Monster

Boston Red Sox, David Ortiz, Michael Wacha, World Series

Rule number one regarding Red Sox postseason games: It always comes back to David Ortiz. St. Louis rookie Michael Wacha held the Sox scoreless through 5 1/3 innings of World Series Game 2 on Thursday night, but issued a one-out walk to Dustin Pedroia in the sixth that brought Big Papi to the plate and sent the Fenway Park crowd into a frenzy.

The fans were no doubt hoping Ortiz would replicate the kind of magic he’d shown earlier in this postseason, first with a two-homer game off the Rays’ David Price in the ALDS, then with the ALCS-changing grand slam against the Tigers and finally with a home run in Wednesday night’s World Series Game 1 against the Cardinals.

He didn’t disappoint. On 3-2, Wacha put an 85 mph changeup on the outside edge of the plate, and The Boston Slugger pounced, pounding it over the Green Monster for a two-run homer:

The home run was just the Red Sox’ third hit of the night. It was Ortiz’s second homer of the series, fifth of this year’s postseason and 17th of his postseason career. The runs ended Wacha’s postseason scoreless streak at 19 innings, a rookie record, and proved that the 22-year-old Cardinals phenom is human.

We’re still not sure about Ortiz.

When can we see the errors the Sox made to lose the game?

It's a fly ball out in any other major league park...Monster shot?  Ridiculous.  More media hype for a PED user.

@WHO*IS*ESPN Just read the story on the main page.  There are links to the sections and stories detailing the errors.

@WHO*IS*ESPN It got them the lead for a short while.  Then they made errors that ultimately cost them the game.  Happens too many times to count, to many teams over the course of the season.

I don't see where the media is bending over to appease Ortiz.  I see hundreds of clips from ESPN, CNN SI and other outlets over the season covering a variety of players.  Have you even been to the Dominican Republic?  Check your racial bias at the door and focus instead on facts.

@Dave C They're not playing in any other park.  They're playing in Fenway.  He's hit over 430 HRs in his career, and they weren't all in Boston.  But you knew that.  And it WAS a huge HR.  It went over 400' AND cleared a 37' high wall!  Can YOU hit an 85 mph changeup that far?  No you can't.

As for PEDs, maybe he did and maybe he didn't.  I follow sports and have yet to read anything that remotely resembles proof.  In addition to being a fan of sports I'm also a fan of the freedoms and rights we have in this country.  And as you know (or should know), one of the more significant ones is the standard of "innocent until proven guilty".

@Dave C @Steven17 Great response -- a whole lot of nothing.  Offer up some real proof or be quiet.  You know nothing.
