Alex Rodriguez’s full statement after being suspended for 162 games

Alex Rodriguez

Below is the full text of Alex Rodriguez’s statement after arbitrator Frederic Horowitz reduced his suspension from 211 games to 162 games, plus the postseason.

“The number of games sadly comes as no surprise, as the deck has been stacked against me from day one. This is one man’s decision, that was not put before a fair and impartial jury, does not involve me having failed a single drug test, is at odds with the facts and is inconsistent with the terms of the Joint Drug Agreement and the Basic Agreement, and relies on testimony and documents that would never have been allowed in any court in the United States because they are false and wholly unreliable.

“This injustice is MLB’s first step toward abolishing guaranteed contracts in the 2016 bargaining round, instituting lifetime bans for single violations of drug policy, and further insulating its corrupt investigative program from any variety of defense by accused players, or any variety of objective review. I have been clear that I did not use performance enhancing substances as alleged in the notice of discipline, or violate the Basic Agreement or the Joint Drug Agreement in any manner, and in order to prove it, I will take this fight to federal court. I am confident that when a Federal Judge reviews the entirety of the record, the hearsay testimony of a criminal whose own records demonstrate that he dealt drugs to minors, and the lack of credible evidence put forth by MLB, that the judge will find that the panel blatantly disregarded the law and facts, and will overturn the suspension.

“No player should have to go through what I have been dealing with, and I am exhausting all options to ensure not only that I get justice, but that players’ contracts and rights are protected through the next round of bargaining and that the MLB investigation and arbitration process cannot be used against others in the future the way it is currently being used to unjustly punish me.

“I will continue to work hard to get back on the field and help the Yankees achieve the ultimate goal of winning another championship. I want to sincerely thank my family, all of my friends, and of course the fans and many of my fellow MLB players for the incredible support I received throughout this entire ordeal.”

A-Rod you are an idiot and a criminal and belong in jail for illegal drug use, so quit complaining about a suspension.

Watching this clown from Biogenesis on 60 Minutes. I don't believe a word he's saying.

This is the same MLB that welcomes back Mark McGwire but ostracizes Barry Bonds.  Talk about mixed messages.  Before anyone says the whole "Mark repented" he also claimed he thought he could hit 70 HRs without PED usage.

He's not stupid and he might have enough money to buy a different verdict. He wants that 24 million.

Alex, Alex,Alex, There is no way you wrote the above statement. Do you really care about your fellow players? I think not.

If Bud has ANY spine; as commissioner just wipe this guy from the books.  Every year he cheated just doesn't count.

On another note, I hope A Rod fights it just so he spends more millions.  Then he and T.O. can tour the country trying to get sympathy

Dear arod - Just shut the f*****k up and go away. You are without question one of the most vile despicable human beings on the planet.

The true injustice is A-Rod wasn't banned for life, which is what should have happened. How sad is it this slug of a human being could one day theoretically be inducted into the HOF yet Shoeless Joe Jackson cannot.

What a fricking joke.

In a later interview A-Rod is going to Iran to set up a baseball game for the leaders of that country. He is enlisting x-baseball players. It will be a 2 out of three series.

No A-Rod the real injustice is someone paying you almost 500million dollars

injustice is you wasting millions on lawyers while someone people can barely make ends meet

injustice is A-Rod getting away with cheating from he was in high school

crushing players that never held on for a pay day because your cheating screwed them out of a few MLB checks.... that is injustice,

plus a any prosecutor will be able his words in 2007 and 2009 against him.  2007 did you ever use ped's of any kind answer no.  then bring up his 2009 statement did you ever use ped's, yes but only between 2001 and 2003 case closed

CobyPreimesberger
CobyPreimesberger

plus if you really look at this arbitrator's ruling, it wasn't 211 to 162 it was 211 to 162 and the postseason and let's say the yankees made it as a wildcard and played max games in all series it would be 162+1+5+7+7, so in reality it's only a 29 game reduction if they made the playoffs

A-Rod blew a perfectly fine HOF career by juicing.  I hope he and the other cheaters are banned for life from the HOF; alas, there's far too many folks that don't believe in integrity, legacy or tradition = so A-Rod, Roger, Barry, etc. will all be in there some day, sadly.

The only injustice is the reduction in the suspension.

Narcissism's poster boy strikes again.  If it wasn't the Yankees, I think all the major league teams would consider splitting the cost of ARod's contract just to get rid of him.  His comments are getting increasingly self serving and he has become embarrassment to baseball.

effeweall
effeweall

AR turning this into a stand against MLB where he is fighting for the CBA of 2016 and protecting guaranteed contracts is laughable.

If AR came clean and said, "i have been using PEDs since i was 18 years old, MLB knew and now they are hanging me out to dry" it would be a valid agruement how full of crap MLB is the last 20 years with PEDs.

The tune he is singing is a joke and he thinks he will get all 700 MLB players behind him to fight for all of "their" rights".  AR made 60 million dumping properties he owned before any of the biogenisis stuff started.

This is all theater.  Total garbage and Bud $elig's legacy should be he sold out america's pastime as a novelty for HR's, luxury boxes and tabloid fans after 1994 strike to get people in the stands.  The owners gotta love $elig, but the game has suffered.

$elig and AR both deserve each other.  Any statue of $elig should have AR right along with it.

WHAT A BUNCH OF JUDGMENTAL MORONS YOU A-ROD BASHERS ARE. YOU ALL WANT TO BLAME 1 GUY FOR ALL THE THINGS A VAST MAJORITY OF PLAYERS HAVE DONE FOR YEARS WITH THE APPROVAL OF THEIR MANAGERS, TRAINERS AND OWNERS ALL THE TIME TURNING A BLIND EYE TO OR WAS NOT ILLEAL AT THE TIME. IS HE A SAINT-NO, BUT HE'S NOT THE CRIMINAL OR DREG OF SOCIETY YOU IDIOTS MAKE HIM OUT TO BE. YOU RIP HIM FOR WHAT HE MAKES WHEN THE OWNERS THREW THE MONEY AT HIM. WHAT-YOU WOULDN'T TAKE IT? MOST OF YOU HAVE PROBABLY DONE FAR MORE WORSE DRUGS THEN HE DID BUT YOU SIT IN YOUR GLASS HOUSES AND THROW STONES.

HOW ABOUT LOOKING AT THE IDIOT LYING PIECE OF GARBAGE IN THE WHITE HOUSE WHO HAS LIED TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, THREW US INTO ECONOMIC DEPRESSION AND MADE US THE JOKE OF THE WORLD. BUT NO, A-ROD GETS VILIFIED FOR A RELATIVELY MINOR SOCIAL INFRACTION THAT DESERVES A SUSPENSION BUT ONE THAT IS CONSISTENT WITH THE CURRENT RULES UNDER THE TIME CONSTRAINTS OF WHEN IT HAPPENED. GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSES AND GET A LIFE. CAN'T WAIT FOR YOUR RESPONSES!!!

@mystafugee  McGwire's reputation was ruined and his chance for the HOF is nonexistent. Out of friendship, after years away, LaRussa hired him as a batting coach. Bonds may still make the HOF (he is the poster boy for the steroid era, with numbers too great to ignore, but the obvious element of cheating about him). If Barry did have any friends in the game (he was a pretty nasty character and people do remember that) and a desire to be a batting coach, he would probably be working in baseball today.

@EdEsposito1  Really jacka**? And should they then take away the stinking ROIDSOX "championships" that they stole in *04 & *07, not to mention *13? Typical jacka***s know nothing about baseball yankee hater.

@Kapmak If A-Rod's an embarrassment what are the owners who supplied "greenies" and other drugs to their players like candy for many years and the commissioner's office who couldn't have cared less until they were called out on it and paid 5 million to buy evidence from  a drug dealer. C'mon let's be real here.. They are far more guilty then he is

@mystafugee @tonywieman@gmail.com He was singled out to receive the two most absurd contracts in the history of baseball, greatly based on talents/numbers that were aided, to some unknown degree, by illegal substances.

In the process, he became a very wealthy man, again, based on some unknown level of fraud, misrepresentation and cheating. Your concern of fairness is incredibly misplaced.

@mystafugee - Are you kidding? Have you read anything or is reading your real problem? Are you afraid of being kicked out of the A-Rod lovers club?

Kapmak
Kapmak

@ARODFAN @Kapmak Admire your allegiance to ARod.  However, that type of loyalty also makes it difficult to be objective.  First, where is the evidence that owners supplied "greenies" (what exactly is this?) and at the time this was allegedly happening, was there an agreement between the league and players that this was prohibited?  Second, the alleged estimated amount that MLB paid for evidence by ARod's representatives only $150,000.  I am aware that you might not be interested in facts, but 60 minutes will be doing a piece on that particular part of the ARod situation.

@effeweall@ARODFANWhat he wants is to play baseball and to be treated the same as everyone else who has been suspended. Baseball (Selig & the Yankees) want to make an example out of him even though they are far more corrupt and devious. I'll be the firat to admit he deserves a suspension but one that fits. Many have repoted and said that and it is common knowledge the owners & management supplied drugs to their players as their only concern was to win at any cost and to put people in the stands.

MarkPeters
MarkPeters

@ARODFAN@Tim41@effeweall And yet here you spouting about knowing exactly what he wants.  ARoid is getting treated like the other players.  His suspension is harsher because he tried to block the investigation, and continued to lie about his involvement.  The other players, when presented with the evidence, negotiated the length of their suspension (Braun) or accepted the the 50 game bans.  Aroid didn't, and now has said he would be willing to negotiate a shorter suspension if he lost arbitration, but MLB has told him to pound sand.  If he was truly not guilty of any of this, why be willing to negotiate?  He is throwing good money after bad suing, since this was a collectively bargained process, the court will not get involved.

ARODFAN
ARODFAN

@Tim41@ARODFAN@effeweall And you know that how? Oh, you're good friends with him and he confided this to you! He has more money than he'll ever need and prestige has nothing to do with it. He's already as famous or infamous as he will ever be. Just another arm chair IDIOT spouting garbage about something they know nothing about.

Tim41

@ARODFAN @effeweall No, what he wants is money and prestige.  He really doesn't give a rat's backside about baseball.
